The Journal of Culture and Its Transmission in the African World (ISSN 1542-7358) is an interdisciplinary and peer-reviewed journal that is jointly published semi-annually by the African World Studies Institute at Fort Valley State University and the Center for Diopian Inquiry and Research on Education as Culture Transmission (DIRECT Center) at Medgar Evers College.

JCTAW seeks to promote the understanding of African cultural history as inclusive of the global experiences of Africans and their movements through time and space. JCTAW wants to encourage the exploration of the cultural continuities between Africa, the Americas and the Caribbean. JCTAW seeks to examine the factors that influence, encourage and/or disrupt the transmission and retention of cultural knowledge and identity among African-descended people throughout the world.
