Obsidian II: Black Literature in Review is a semiannual review for the study and cultivation of creative works in English by Black writers worldwide, as well as works by all writers on Black issues, with scholarly critical studies by all writers on Black literature in English. All bibliographies and documented articles should follow the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (fourth edition, 1995). Manuscripts should be submitted on a disk, along with two printed copies. Manuscripts may be submitted in a variety of word processor formats. Macintosh and IBM users are urged to submit files in Microsoft Word. Text files from other word processors may be used if the files are saved in ASCII format. All disks should be high-density on 1.40 / 1.44 / 2.0 MB 3.5 floppies. All manuscripts, whether typed or printed copies of material submitted on disks, should be double spaced throughout (30 pages maximum length), including quotations from prose and verse, with Notes and Works Cited on separate pages at the end. All submissions (typed or printed copies), must be in duplicate, and all must be accompanied by a self-addressed, stamped envelope (with sufficient postage), or they cannot be returned. Poetry submissions can be three to six poems, with one poem per page. Please submit critical essays with a cover sheet bearing author's name, address, and title of the article, so that the author's name does not appear on the manuscript. Do not send simultaneous submissions or previously published material. Submissions should include a short biographical sketch (maximum 50 words)k, and should include the author's name and address on each page in the upper right corner. Normally, two to three months is required before the submission can be returned. Articles take considerably longer because three readers read them.
